What is Weathering steel engraving?

Weathering steel is made of ordinary carbon steel with a small amount of corrosion resistant elements such as copper and nickel.
It has the strength, ductility, forming, welding and cutting, abrasion, high temperature, fatigue resistance and other characteristics of high-quality steel; The weathering resistance is 2~8 times of that of ordinary carbon steel, and the coating resistance is 1.5~10 times of that of ordinary carbon steel.
At the same time, it has the characteristics of rust resistance, corrosion resistance and life extension of components, thinning and consumption reduction, labor saving and energy saving. Weathering steel is mainly used for steel structures exposed to the atmosphere for a long time, such as railways, vehicles, bridges, towers, photovoltaic, high-speed projects, etc.
It is used to manufacture structural components such as containers, railway vehicles, oil derricks, harbor buildings, oil production platforms and containers containing hydrogen sulfide corrosive media in chemical and petroleum equipment.

Basic principle of corrosion

In the early stage of corrosion, the rust layer formed on the surface of weathering steel is more dense than that of carbon steel, and the relativity of cracks and holes is less; After 25 days, the carbon steel and weathering steel parts showed a hierarchical situation. There was no difference in the etching substances. The main difference was the effect of aluminum alloy in the rust layer. The precipitation of Cu and Cr aluminum alloy elements in the weathering steel rust layer can prevent the water vapor in the air and the invasion of harmful positive ions at the crack to avoid further corrosion of the base metal material. Achieve the effect of air corrosion resistance.
