Principle of weathering steel
After adding phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel and other trace elements into the steel, the steel surface will form a dense and highly adhesive protective film, which will prevent the corrosion from spreading and developing inward, and protect the substrate under the rust layer to slow down its corrosion rate. About 50 μ m～100 μ The m thick amorphous spinel oxide layer is dense and has good adhesion with the base metal. Because of the existence of this dense oxide film, it prevents oxygen and water in the atmosphere from infiltrating into the steel substrate, slows down the deep development of corrosion to steel materials, and greatly improves the atmospheric corrosion resistance of steel materials. Use of weathering steel
1. Exposed use:
The most common use of weathering steel is exposed. Generally, after 3 to 10 years, the rust layer on the surface of weathering steel gradually stabilizes, the corrosion development slows down, and the appearance is beautiful chocolate color.
Because the stabilization process of the rust layer of the weathering steel is affected by the chemical composition of the steel, the use environment, the stagnant water and dust in the structural details, and the mechanical wear and other conditions, if improperly used, the formation conditions of the stable rust layer will be damaged, and the weathering steel will also produce serious corrosion.
2. Application of coating:
In many departments such as buildings, bridges, vehicles, etc., weathering steel, like ordinary steel, is mostly used for coating. Compared with ordinary steel, the coated weathering steel shows excellent corrosion resistance. However, due to the increased use cost and operation process, it is difficult to apply coating to large components generally.
3. Use after stabilization:
At the beginning, a treatment is carried out on the surface of the components to shorten the formation process of the stable rust layer of the weathering steel, which can not only avoid the phenomenon of yellow rust liquid sagging in the initial use of the weathering steel, prevent pollution, but also form a stable rust layer.
